Kusamono Workshop with Young Choe – July 20

Kusamono means “grass thing” in Japanese—but it’s much more than that. This unique style of plant arrangement features wild grasses, flowers, moss, and other small plants, thoughtfully composed in simple pots. Originally used as accent pieces next to bonsai trees, kusamono has evolved into its own celebrated art form—one that evokes a deep sense of season, place, and natural beauty.

We’re thrilled to offer a rare opportunity to learn from world-renowned kusamono artist Young Choe. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Young studied Asian art before moving to the U.S., where she earned a B.S. in horticulture from the University of Maryland. Her stunning work is regularly featured at the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum in Washington, D.C. She deepened her practice under Japanese kusamono master Keiko Yamane and is now a sought-after instructor across the U.S. and Europe.
