Dave was the Construction Manager at Shoe Carnival for 25 years.  A co-worker had a small bonsai in his office at work, which Dave really liked and started the beginning of his love for bonsai which lasted for over 40 years.

Dave was very active in the bonsai community. He gave many lectures on bonsai to garden clubs and bonsai societies throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. He also taught workshops, judged bonsai shows and cared for over 150 bonsai in his personal collection

Dave served on the board of the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington D.C. and the American Bonsai Society. He also served as the President of the Evansville Bonsai Society for many years. He was an avid writer, writing the newsletter for the American Bonsai Society for many years, as well as the newsletters for the Nashville, Louisville and Evansville Bonsai Societies.

Dave and his wife, Barbara, started Bogan’s Bonsai in 2008. The bonsai business in Lynnville, Indiana, sold bonsai supplies including over 1200 bonsai pots, soil, tools, wire, etc.

Dave was respected as an expert in the field of bonsai. He will be remembered for his vast knowledge of bonsai by the members of his study group, as well as others who knew him.
