Japan Summer Festival

August 1, 2009 13:24

The Japan/America Society of Kentucky (JASK) has supported cultural exchange between Japanese and Americans in Kentucky since Toyota's arrival in 1987. This summer they will hold the second large-scale summer program for Kentuckians to enjoy Japanese cuisine and culture on Saturday, August 22nd at Jacobson Park, Lexington.

JASK has over 200 corporate members in Kentucky, most of who are in Central Kentucky. From membership alone, they expect over 100 visitors at the event. However, the goal is to reach Kentucky's citizens with this event as well. The allure of Japan for kids and adults has drawn the attention of many Kentuckians over the years.

They will have food vendors with sushi and other traditional Japanese 'summertime' foods. They will do some crafts such as Japanese flower arrangements, Kimono try-it-out corner, Origami, Healthy Japanese Cooking Class, Tea Ceremony, Making Japanese kites, and Calligraphy. A few vendors will come with goods like Japanese paper, Jimbei, Happi coats, Pokemon cards, etc. They are also planning karate and traditional Japanese dance demonstrations, as well as games for kids.

Last year GLBS (John Callaway) participated with exhibiting several bonsai, answering questions and handing out literature. This year we hope to have several GLBS members participate. Call John to let him know you will attend.
