Linda Kossmann did a great job giving a landscape forms lecture and accompanying workshop in July.  That in attendance at either I'm sure learned a great deal.  Linda's experience as a teacher was evident as she put together a great presentation.  If you haven't done so, make it a point to thank Linda at the next meeting.

As stated in the July newsletter, nominations will be accepted for board positions.  Voting will be held at the August 12th meeting.  Please send your nominations to me ASAP.  Positions include:

President
Vice President
Treasurer
Meeting Chair
Show Chair
Board Member 1
Board Member 2
Board Member 3
Board Member 4

There will be a board meeting August 28th, 7pm at Earl Cormney's to set the calendar of events for 2009.  All new and returning board members are invited to attend.  Those with requests for next year’s calendar are encouraged to share any and all ideas.

The Greater Louisville Bonsai Society has been asked to participate in Japan! Family Summer Festival in Lexington Kentucky.  On Saturday, August 23rd there will be a summer program sponsored by the Japan/America Society of KY from 1:00pm-7:00pm in Jacobson Park.  If you are interested in attending and volunteering at the Louisville Bonsai booth please let me know as soon as possible.  More details will be available when you RSVP.

We will be having Julian Adams in for a lecture and workshop on September 13th.  If you are interested in signing up for this workshop you must be enrolled and paid by the August 12th meeting.  Cost for the workshop is $45 and well worth the price.  The morning lecture will consist of a presentation on pines entitled "Pines are Easy".  The afternoon workshop will be "bring your own tree" where you can work on a tree of your choosing and gain a tremendous amount of styling and care advice.

Julian is a great speaker and teacher.  He is quite knowledgeable and does a great job passing on that knowledge to others.  Julian was first introduced to bonsai in 1970 and his bonsai experience has only grown through years of study.  He is Board member at the National Bonsai Foundation as well as Board member & former vice president, American Bonsai Society.  His current occupation is owner/operator at his own bonsai business, Adams' Bonsai in Lynchburg VA.

2nd Tuesday - August 12th, 7-9pm at Bon Air Library
Earl Ekman will be giving a demonstration on constructing slabs and other planting surfaces using a variety of materials.  There is no charge for this demonstration and all are encouraged to attend.

Following Saturday - August 16th
The accent plant meeting will have to be rescheduled.  There will be no meeting on Saturday.
