July was a good month for the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society. I would like to thank the Old Louisville Garden Club for inviting us to be a part of their tour on July 7th and 8th, and all those members who came out to work and provide support. The field trip to Cass Bonsai Gardens on July 14th went very well. Those members in attendance came home with plenty of pots, wire, soil, and trees. As I type this, I am preparing for the Nashville Bonsai Society Regional Show on the MTSU campus July 28th-29th. This is sure to be a great show.

We will be having two Bonsai 101 classes August 7th and 11th. Here beginners, intermediates, and even advanced members can learn new and different techniques for bonsai. We will be covering things such as tools, repotting, wiring, proper trimming, the differences between pinching and pruning, etc. I would encourage everyone to attend at least one of these meetings.

Thursday, August 23rd, 7:00pm we will be having a board meeting at Earl Cormney's house. Here we will be planning the 2008 calendar. If you have any suggestions for programs or any requests for visiting artists, please make them before or at this meeting. Also on the agenda, we will start to form committees and groups for the 2011 ABS/BCI Learning Seminar that will be held in Louisville. This will take a lot of work and a lot of volunteers - I'm sure the committee chair persons will be contacting you to help. If you have any thoughts and/or would like to offer your services, please let this be known before or during this meeting.
