We will be having our annual Spring Bonsai Show at Yew Dell Gardens. I want to encourage each and every member to show a tree or two. Those who will be displaying a tree can drop off trees and stands Friday evening, April 28th at Yew Dell Gardens. If you are not going to include a tree in this show I would still encourage you to attend and help out.

There is a new addition to the calendar this month. On Wednesday April 25th from 7-9pm we will be having an informal "Show Prep" workshop at the Bon Air Library. Feel free to bring a tree or two and a few stands. This is the time where you can get suggestions and help on deciding which trees to display, how best to show them, which stand will work best, how to clean the pot, and so on and so forth.

In May the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society will also be participating in the Art in the Arbor show at the Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church. We're really trying to promote our club and get more people interested in bonsai. More information will be in next month's newsletter.

Dana Quattlebaum put on a great demo and workshop last month. He really is quite talented and does a great job of explaining what he is doing and make it understandable and exciting to all skill levels. I hope we will see some of the demo/workshop trees again in the next few months to see their progress.

We are still accepting submissions for the Tree of the Month (TOM) section in the newsletter. I hope to see more of our club member's trees featured in the next few months. If you're interested in submitting, it only takes a few words and perhaps a picture of the tree. This can be your favorite tree, something unique and interesting, or just something you want to share with the rest of the club. Submissions can be made to me or George Buehler.

Last month I opened my home to club members interested in spending a Saturday morning doing bonsai. We had a few club members show and really enjoyed a cold and snowy day doing bonsai in my garage. I've included a picture of one of the trees that was repotted that day.

Once again this month I am inviting club members to my house to join in bonsai fun. Saturday April 14th from 10am-whenever I will be mixing up organic fertilizer, drying recently made fertilizer, and placing already dried fertilizer on bonsai. This will be a day devoted to fertilizer. Let's see if next month we can't visit someone else's bonsai home to learn and enjoy.

John
