This is my first message as the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society President. I'm looking forward to a great year. We have many new and exciting things planned, for example, a workshop with Dana Quattlebaum in March, "Trim and Talk" session in June, and Bonsai 101 workshops series in August. We also have plenty of other activities coming up, so be sure to check the calendar on page 2 and plan on attending.

January 27th will be our first workshop for 2007. We will be having a double workshop: make your own soil and make your own stand. Soil ingredients such as lava, SoilMaster Red, pine bark, etc. will be available. Be sure to bring a 5 gallon bucket and any soil screens, sieves, or scoops you may have. If you don't have any of these things don't fret. I'm sure another club member will be willing to share. The cost of this workshop will be for materials only, so buy as much as you want/need.

For anyone interested in building a bonsai display stand, we will have materials available for you to build your own at the January workshop. We had an entire workshop devoted to this in 2006. It was a lot of fun, and we made many great stands. Maybe we can persuade some people to bring in those stands that they made. Cost will be $10 for the first stand, $5 for each additional. Several colors of stain will be available as well.

The workshop will be held at the Cave Hill maintenance shop at 10am January 27th. If you plan on attending, please give me a call or send an email by January 24th so that we can plan accordingly.
