In last months issue, we published a memoriam for Dr. John Doyle. Unfortunately, the author, Tom McCurry was not credited. We apologize for the oversight.

I was really surprised to see that only 10 of our members brought trees to the Oxmoor show. Fortunately, those 10 members exhibited 45 trees and one group presentation. Gene Sewell went to a lot of trouble setting up the show for only 10 members to participate. What happened to the rest of you? One of our newer members, Tom Eckhoff, brought his 3 year old Bougainvillea (See picture page 3). Hopefully, next year we can get more participation.

Our Board goes to a lot of trouble planning the years events. When only a few members participate in the events, it isn’t very motivating to the planners.

If you would like to have some different type events, I’m sure the Board would be willing to try to schedule them. Let them know what you would like to have and then participate. Their telephone number is on the first page along with mine or you can email me if you prefer and I will pass it on to them. These events are a good way to learn about Bonsai. It is also a good way to help you gain from the experiences of our other members. Many of our members have 20 to 30 years experience with bonsai. All you have to do is ask and they will help you with any questions you have. How do you meet and get to know these members? It is quite easy - attend the events and meetings!

We will be having a series of articles in upcoming newsletters entitled “Interviews with Members”. The basic idea is to “pick” the brains of our long time members to help all of us. Hopefully, it will also give our new members ideas for their trees.

If you have any suggestions for additional features, let me know and I will be happy to try to include them is a future issue. As always, you can email me or call, both are listed on the first page.

Remember to watch your trees more carefully as the weather warms up. A regular watering schedule is a must and a misting from the garden hose to help them cool down is a good idea.

If you want to see the trees on page 3 (and more) in living color, go to www.louisvillebonsai.org. Our webmaster- John Callaway - has these and others for viewing.
