On March 27, a tree collecting trip was conducted at Tom McCurry’s nursery. Bald Cypress and Trident maples were available for digging. Five members collected trees. Although the digging was difficult, as shown by our president using a little persuader, the trees collected were a real bargain - as can be seen by Mike Schmidt’s trophy.
April 17 not only brought Thunder Over Louisville, it also was the day for ‘bring your own tree’ workshop at Bon Air Library. Earl Cormney handled the set up and helped all present with some good advice. This type event is designed to get advice from all present on design and shaping trees. A starting tree (below) and the finished tree (right) are examples.
Some of the trees worked on didn’t have this drastic change, but everyone present gave some useful advice. Next year we will try to schedule this event on a day different from ‘Thunder” and hopefully, more members will be able to attend.
