I would like to thank Lee Squires for the great workshop we had using Korean hornbeam material. We had 16 outstanding forests and everyone went away happy. I am encouraging everyone who did a forest to bring it to the June 12 Picnic Garden Tour. It will be a lot of fun to see how they turned out.
At the workshop, quite a few people asked about the formula for the muck we use to form a base around the forest. For those interested, here is the Mixture:
- 1/3 Sphagnum peat moss
- 1/3 Organic peat
- 1/3 Soil (the more clay the better).
- Add water until it is mixed well and very firm.
It is with great sadness to inform you that one of our oldest most respected members passed away in February. John Doyle was one of our founding members and one of those responsible for Bonsai in Louisville. Dr. Doyle was a pediatrician his entire working life and will be missed by a lot of people.
We will be having a show at the Oxmoor shopping center May 8-9. We plan on calling it the John Doyle Bonsai Show. Gene Sewell will be heading up this show and has it pretty well planned.
Great News! We now have a newsletter Staff. George Buehler will be in charge and Midge Goeth and Patty Galli will be assisting George. Midge will also take charge as promotions chairman. She will promote upcoming events.
On April 17th, we will have bring your own tree workshop at the Bon Air Library from 10 AM to 1 PM. Bring a tree you have had trouble styling or a new one you want suggestions with. This is a great opportunity to get lots of ideas and help in styling.
