by George Buehler

Mark the date on your calendar – June 16-19, 2011

Look at your specimen trees as you get them out of winter storage and pick one or two to place in the exhibit. Earl Ekman will be contacting all of you to line up trees. We will need about 50 high quality trees.

We have commitments from 12 vendors who will attend the seminar. They are coming from Utah, Texas, Virginia, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania to name a few.

2011 Seminar Meeting Report

August 1, 2008 20:34

by John Callaway

We had a good meeting last month to discuss the progress for the ABS/BCI Bonsai in the Bluegrass 2011 planning.  Not all committee chairs were in attendance.  We need to make sure that at the very least all chairs are present at each planning meeting.  If you are unable to attend please let me know and be sure to send someone in your place.  This is the first major bonsai convention/seminar in the Louisville area and it will take a lot of work from each and every club member.  If you have not yet volunteered and wish to do so, please let me know as soon as possible.

Some club members were not going to be able to meet the July 17th deadline for logo design submission.  In order to accommodate everyone’s busy schedule the deadline has been extended to Tuesday, September 9th.  Please contact me to submit logo ideas.  We're all looking forward to seeing the great ideas you have.

There will be another planning meeting in October.  All committee chairs are expected to attend.  Details about this meeting will be in the September newsletter.

Bonsai in the Bluegrass - Logo Design

July 1, 2008 14:57

by John Callaway

Planning for the ABS/BCI joint conference and learning seminar in Louisville 2011 has continued over the last several months.  The next step for the club members is to develop and decide on a logo idea that can be used for branding of the conference.  The logo will appear on various literature and promotional items.

Logo ideas should be submitted no later than July 17th.  Submissions will be included in the August newsletter and voted on at the August 12th meeting.  You are only limited by your creativity, but logo ideas should reflect the Bonsai in the Bluegrass theme.  Please contact John Callaway to submit your logo design.

ABS BCI 2011 Conference Planning

April 1, 2008 19:51

by John Callaway

In June 2011 the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society will be hosting a joint American Bonsai Society (ABS) and Bonsai Clubs International (BCI) Learning Seminar and Conference.  Plans are currently underway.  We’ve started off well, but there’s still plenty of work left to be done.

One of the things outstanding is to name the conference.  The ABS Learning Seminar in 2007 was dubbed “Bonsai on the Beach” as it was held in Virginia Beach, literally on the beach.  We have decided to hold a contest for the Greater Louisville Bonsai Society to suggest a name.  Please have entries submitted to me in email or phone by Tuesday, April 8th.  Voting will be held at the upcoming planning meeting.
